Velvet Rouge’s song “Cry” takes you through the journey of the sounds one makes when making love. For Gina Zo, it is about the physicality of the relationship and nothing more, and for the listener, it is about the emotion that comes with the physicality she provides. With hopeless love, we seek out a love that is very real to one, but unrealistic to the other. It is the kind of love that we hope to never encounter, although most people do, unfortunately. Hopeless love occurs when one person believes in the other person’s whole heart, but at the same time, the one we love cannot, or will not, reciprocate feelings. Regretfully, we often see hopeless love in toxic relationships.

The song “Never Meant” takes you through meeting the “love of your life” at a basement bar. The turmoil of lustful love was often something Gina discussed through her first album in 2016, My Weakness. She sees lustful love as the first we experience in life and is about the discovery of what it is to be in true love. With forbidden love, we desire a love that is based on what we know in our hearts is not good for us, but for many possible reasons, we crave.
